Celtic are closing in on Canadian international Niko Sigur from Hajduk Split, beating Premier League side Wolves in the race for the versatile 22-year-old.
Croatian transfer expert Ižak Ante Sučić reports the deal is "one step away" from completion, though the Bhoys' recent managerial chaos has temporarily stalled negotiations.
Sources indicate Sigur's agents at SA33—who have completed approximately €50m worth of transfers with Celtic in recent years including Liel Abada, Matt O'Riley and Callum McGregor—have maintained strong communication with the Glasgow club's hierarchy throughout the process.
Wolverhampton Wanderers had monitored Sigur throughout the autumn, with Fabrizio Romano confirming interest from several clubs across Europe's top five leagues. Hajduk's asking price is believed to be in the region of €8m, similar to what was discussed during summer negotiations.
The complication: Wilfried Nancy's sacking on Monday, just 33 days into his Celtic tenure, put the transfer on hold. Martin O'Neill has since returned as interim manager for the remainder of the season. It's understood Celtic's recruitment department are pressing ahead regardless of the dugout turbulence.
Sigur can operate at right-back or in defensive midfield. This season he's made 22 appearances for Hajduk, splitting time between both positions with one goal and one assist. For Canada, he's won 15 caps playing alongside Celtic teammate Alistair Johnston.
The deal would mark Celtic's second major signing from Hajduk following their successful acquisition of Josip Juranović.
